Can a sore throat and body pain be symptoms of HIV?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex with a sex worker a few weeks ago and when I inserted my penis head into her vagina, it smelled very bad. I quickly took out my penis, it was inside for a minute or less. She was having yellow or greenish discharge but she had no clue about it. Now after 30 days, I have had a sore throat with pain in my body for one week but no fever or any rash. Do I have HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)? If yes, what to do?

Please help.

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. You may have got STD (sexually transmitted disease) or HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus). I suggest you get an HIV and STD test done. Till then I suggest you take the following steps: Tablet of Azithromycin 500 milligrams (antibiotic), one per day for six days. Tablet Fluconazole 150 milligrams (antifungal), one per day for six days. Capsule Doxycycline 1000 milligrams once a day for ten days. Maintain hygiene of the genital area with lukewarm water, and two spoons full of betadine gargle, and clean the genitals at least two times a day. I hope this helps you. Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

Thanks and regards.
