What do left renal grade II hydronephrosis and dilated renal pelvis mean in a newborn's ultrasound report?

Hello doctor,
Kindly review the details of my newborn's ultrasound and suggest your suggestions. The left kidney is enlarged with grade II moderate hydronephrosis and dilated renal pelvis 0.51 inch AP and associated with slight dilated proximal ureter suggestion of reflux. Normal right kidney size and cortical thickness with no congenital hydronephrosis or mass. Partially filled UB with thick wall and no diverticulum. The liver is of normal size and echogenicity with homogenous texture with regular margins. Gall bladder appears normal. No calculus or mass lesion is seen. No intra or extra-hepatic biliary dilatation was identified. BD and PV appear normal. The spleen is normal in size and texture. No abdominal or pelvic mass. No ascites or paraaortic enlarged lymph node is seen. Impression: - Left renal grade II hydronephrosis, dilated renal pelvis suggestive of left-sided vesicoureteral reflux.

I read your query and understand your concern. The details mentioned in the report suggest hydronephrosis, which can be due to reflux or pelvic ureteric junction obstruction. A micturating cystourethrogram (MCUG) scan needs to be done to have a proper diagnosis. After diagnosis, treatment or further tests can be decided accordingly.
