Can recurrent tonsillitis lead to a tonsillar stone?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have become concerned lately because I have recurring tonsilitis. I have had it at least six times in the past year, two or three times within three months. I also have a bump on my tonsil, which has started to concern me too. I noticed it for the first time when I got tonsilitis about a year ago. So it could be a tonsil stone. I have not seen a doctor since I got this sickness because I am healthy. But now that I have noticed this recurrence. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. Please send a picture of an open mouth, paying attention to the tonsils and posterior pharyngeal wall. Then, let us have a look at the tonsils and the oropharynx. Having recurrent tonsillitis is a common problem. Tonsillar stone, however, is slightly less common. We need a detailed history of the episodes, accompanying symptoms, fever, nose block, etc., to get you the right treatment. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
