What does the appearance of a tongue-tie resemble?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My two veins on the bottom of the tongue are dark blue. This is because so many little things are sticking out, and a skin flap on the bottom of the mouth looks longer than usual.

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

After reviewing your condition, the findings are suggestive of tongue-tie and stress. Tongue-tie is a condition wherein the lingual flap from the floor of the mouth is attached near the tip of the tongue, which creates difficulty in tongue protrusion. The small things and the red spots might be due to stress caused by difficulty in tongue protrusion. A papillary growth or pedunculated vesicles on the floor of the mouth can also be suspected.

A clinical examination needs to be done to detect tongue tie and pathological lesions. I would suggest a minor surgery for tongue-tie, which involves cutting the flap near the tip of the tongue and repositioning it posteriorly by a knot. A follow-up examination after the surgery helps to look for lesions on the floor of the mouth.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
