Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have tinnitus problem for the last one year.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per your concern, tinnitus is a perception of a ringing sound. It is of two types such as subjective and objective. Subjective tinnitus is heard by the patients alone. But objective tinnitus is heard by both the patients and doctors. Tinnitus is not a disease but it is a symptom of some other underlying health conditions. Tinnitus occurs due to various causes. Exposure to loud sound, wax, sensorineural hearing loss, trauma, ET dysfunction, Meniere's disease, and acoustic neuroma are some causes. It is important to know the cause for the treatment. In your case, it can be due to eustachian tube blockage as you have a history of nasal polyp. You can take tablet Levocetirizine 5 mg one tablet at night for two weeks. You can use nasal drops Oxymetazoline 0.005% three drops three times a day for seven days. You can take tablet Betahistine 8 mg three times a day for seven days. You can ignore tinnitus by playing music, watching television, or talking with others. As you are having tinnitus for a year, you can consult an ENT specialist to treat the condition. You can do pure tone audiometry and impedance audiometry for diagnosing tinnitus. You can treat tinnitus by doing tinnitus retraining therapy and intratympanic Dexamethasone. Anti-anxiety drugs can be taken to treat anxiety.
