Can I use Tezspire for nasal polyps?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been using Tezspire for my severe asthma and have noticed some improvement in my breathing. However, I also have chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, which makes it difficult to breathe through my nose, and I keep getting sinus infections. Could Tezspire help with my nasal polyps as well, or would I need a different treatment for that? Also, are there any risks associated with using it for both conditions?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I am glad to hear that Tezspire has been helping with your asthma. Tezspire (Tezepelumab) is primarily used for severe asthma, but its anti-inflammatory properties may also provide some benefits for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. However, its effectiveness for nasal polyps is not as well-established as other biologics specifically approved for this condition, such as Dupilumab.

For chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, additional or alternative treatments may be necessary, including nasal corticosteroids, saline rinses, or other biologics. It is important to discuss your options with your healthcare provider to determine the best approach for managing both conditions.

As for risks, using Tezepelumab for both conditions generally does not pose additional concerns beyond its known side effects, which include injection site reactions, headache, and sore throat. However, be sure to monitor for any new or worsening symptoms and report them to your healthcare provider.

If you would like more detailed information or have any further questions, please book a consultation with me. I am happy to help!

Thank you.
