Patient's Query
Hello Doctor,
My husband has had uncontrolled asthma for years, and we are considering Tezepelumab (Tezspire) after multiple flare-ups despite using inhalers and corticosteroids. His pulmonologist says it may reduce inflammation and hospital visits, but we are unfamiliar with it. Is it a biologic injection, and does it work for all asthma types or just allergic asthma? How often is it given, and are there any major side effects? Also, how long does it take to see improvement? We just want him to breathe easier again.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to iCliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Tezspire(Tezepelumab-ekko) is a biologic injection that treats both allergic and eosinophilic asthma by targeting thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), a key molecule involved in airway inflammation. In clinical studies, Tezspire significantly reduced asthma exacerbations over 52 weeks compared to placebo in patients with severe, uncontrolled asthma. It is administered once every four weeks. Common side effects include back pain, rash, sore throat, injection site reactions, arthralgia (joint pain), breathing difficulties, fever, and red or inflamed eyes. Tezspire begins to work after the first dose, though noticeable symptom improvement may take several weeks.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
