Strabismus and blurry vision when focusing. Please Help.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I developed strabismus when I was younger and recently I started doing eye exercises to the point where I can now hold my eyes in a straight position. However, I cannot focus on anything. My only way of seeing is still by using the eyes separately and due to the eye exercises I also need to put in more focusing effort when doing this. And when I do I can see my other eye turn in as vision is blurry without focusing.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Sorry to hear about your ailment. I guess your eyes turn outwards. This condition is called intermittent divergent squint. Generally, it remains stable, but sometimes the frequency of getting deviated increases with time like what you are experiencing. I would advise you to continue Cat card exercise or pencil pushup exercises but to be frank the intermittent squint seems to be progressing to being constantly alternate divergent squint. Please observe if the frequency is increasing or not, whether you get double vision or stress in excessive light, etc. If the answer is yes, first check your eye power first. If it is the same and the vision is good with glasses I think squint surgery is the way forward. However, I am giving an assumed answer. Further pictures of your deviated eyes would help me guide you more.
