Can reinfection occur despite taking medications for stomach flu?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 28-year-old female. I had a stomach flu a month ago, and I recovered from it after taking the medication Norflox TZ. Currently I am experiencing constant acidity and I have the urge to pass stools immediately after meals. I am taking the medicine Pantodac before meals and Gaviscon after meals.

Please suggest me some solution to this problem.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your symptoms are suggestive of a gastritis-like condition. You can continue the prescribed antacids. If there is still no improvement in your symptoms then I suggest you get the following investigations done -

  1. Urea breath test to rule out Helicobacter Pylori infection.
  2. USG (ultrasonogram) of the abdomen.
  3. Avoid gastric irritants like

a. Spicy foods, tea, and coffee.

b. Avoid smoking and alcohol.

c. Be stress free.

I hope this has helped you out.

Thanks and regards.
