Can STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) cause wound on the penis that heals and reappears?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 31 years old. I have a wound on my penis and hemorrhoids. However, I do not have diabetes. I had a skin allergy in the past when I used to do the dusting. I have used the tablet Clavam 625.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I have seen the picture shared by you (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Is the wound on your penis painful? Is there any itching? Is there any discharge from it? Since how many days do you have the wound? Did you have unprotected intercourse? Did you take any treatment for it till now? Did you have them before? The wound looks like an infection; however, a physical examination is needed for further confirmation of diagnosis.

I hope this helps. Kindly revert with the answers to the above questions.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, the wound is painful. However, it gets healed and appears again. I had unprotected intercourse eight months back. Also, I have a discharge sometimes; however, I have not taken any treatment for it.

Kindly guide.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you go for an STD (sexually transmitted disease) test. If the test and physical examination diagnose it as an STD, antibiotics like Doxycycline and Azithromycin need to be started.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
