Will a child with spondylolisthesis be able to play sports?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 10-year-old daughter just found out she has grade 3 spondylolisthesis. I am assuming she is done ever playing sports again?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I do not think there will be any problem in playing sports when she grows up if she takes adequate precautions. Spondylitis is not a disease. It is not curable. If she takes proper care and does some exercises she will definitely recover. You should also consult some physiotherapist for this problem. Also, she should take a good proper and balanced diet that is rich in Calcium, Proteins, Vitamins, and Minerals that provide adequate nutrition to the body and hence proper growth that can help in the curing of the problem.
