Rash and burning sensation in underarms. what to do?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a rash under my left armpit (not on the armpit, but below) since today. It is v-shaped and is burning. I have some discoloration on the topside of the armpit too, but that is not burning. What should I do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is an allergic rash caused due to friction or sweating. I would suggest you apply Cream Tyza (Terbinafine) or Luliact (Luliconazole) cream at night for two weeks. Use Clotrimazole dusting powder daily after bath for one month. Consult your specialist doctor and take the medications with their consent. Avoid scratching, rubbing, occlusion, or friction in that region. Wear loose, comfortable thin cotton clothes. Avoid activities that cause sweating.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had put on a perfume today after a long time and applied some talcum powder under my arms. Could it be because of that? The scent was on the clothes also.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It could be irritant contact dermatitis with fungal infection due to sweating. I suggest applying Bactroban (Mupirocin) ointment once a day for ten days.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had consulted you two weeks back. My rash in the left armpit has subsided, but I still have a burning sensation in my armpit and some pain (pain seems muscular). I had a breast ultrasound performed to rule out any other issues. The test findings were a small cyst and enlarged benign lymph nodes in both armpits. The radiologist said that these could be the cause of the burning. What can I do to reduce this burning? I have no noticeable redness or rash.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Good to hear that rash has subsided. I suggest applying Lacto Calamine lotion three to four times daily and immediately after bathing on the burning area for 20 days for a soothing and cooling effect. If there is inflammation or redness, or swelling on the breast, I would suggest you apply 1 % Cetacort (Hydrocortisone) cream at night for ten days. Take Tablet Emanzen D (Diclofenac 50 mg and Serratiopeptidase 10 mg) twice daily for three days (if pain or tenderness is present). Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them and take the medications after their consent. I would suggest referring a breast surgeon or general surgeon for the above complaints on ultrasound. Regards.
