Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had pain in my breastbone and shoulder blade for the last two weeks. I have been seeing a chiropractor for the last two weeks. He said that the pain was due to back issues. I underwent physiotherapy a year ago. My X-ray report suggested that I have some disk degeneration and arthritis in my neck. The neck has improved over the last two weeks, but the chest muscle and shoulder blade still hurt. I also have some pain in my right shoulder. How do I get rid of this pain?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Shoulder pain can be from the neck. A number of causes can lead to shoulder pain, like tendon inflammation, sprains of the tendon, impingement of the shoulder, or swelling of the bursae around the shoulder. To be sure, you need to get the following investigations done:

  1. X-ray of the affected shoulder AP (anteroposterior) and lateral views.
  2. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan of the affected shoulder.

Shoulder blade pain is most commonly caused by trapezius, which is the inflammation of the muscle sheath. I suggest you take the following medications:

  1. Tablet Piroxicam 20 mg once daily for ten days after food.
  2. Tablet Rabeprazole 20 MG) mg once daily for ten days before food.
  3. Tablet Shelcal (Calcium and Vitamin D3 ) 500 mg once daily for 30 days before food.
  4. Vitamin D capsules once daily for ten days.
  5. Apply Dolonex ointment (Piroxicam) after getting up in the morning.

Take these tablets only if you are not allergic to them. Consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent. Also, do not take these tablets if you are a known case of bronchial asthma. Apply ice packs over the shoulder two to three times a day.

Treatment plan

Follow up after investigations.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

What about chest or breast bone pain? Could it be related to the lung? The chest or breast bone pain usually only occurs when I stretch it.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Breast bone pain can be due to a small muscle tear that attaches over it. In addition, it can be due to a condition called chosto-chondritis, characterized by the inflammation of the cartilage of the rib. The most common cause is inflammatory and aseptic but can also be due to infections. I would suggest you continue my prescribed tablets.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
