What are the symptoms of sexually transmitted disease?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Do you know about STD symptoms?

I have a few very small pink spots on the head of my penis, and I also have a poison ivy like rash on my arms. I am afraid I might have some kind of STD, even though I have never had any form of sex besides masturbation of myself.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query. I understand your concern. Symptoms of STD (sexually transmitted disease) depend on the disease a person is suffering from. Most common symptoms with which patients of STD present are: urethral discharge or vaginal discharge, genital ulcer, burning micturition, lymphadenopathy, blisters on the genital area or lips, and rash on the skin. These are the most commonly encountered symptoms. In case of suspicion, investigations are done depending on the presentation and tentative diagnosis.

Thank you.
