What causes greenish discharge after intercourse?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having a greenish discharge these last 4 days after intercourse with my partner (her). She has PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), and right now, the greenish discharge is lesser, though. I do not know if this relates to the symptoms, but I have been tired, and right now, I have a couple of sores in my mouth. This never happened before the greenish discharge.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Greenish vaginal discharge, itching, and smell associated with unprotected sexual intercourse is most likely the case is trichomonas vaginalis. For confirmation, you need to do:

  1. High vaginal swab.

  2. Nucleic acid amplification test.

Treatment:

  1. Tablet Metronidazole 400 mg, three times a day for 14 days.

  2. Tablet Doxycycline 100 mg, two times a day.

We should trace and treat the partner with the same medication, dosage, and duration. I assure you that you should take these medicines and you will be fine. I would appreciate it if you could give your feedback.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
