What is the remedy for bleeding gums and tooth sensitivity?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Will desensitizing toothpaste work for tooth sensitivity? I am a 25-year-old male, and I have sensitivity issues when I drink hot or cold. When I brush, I can see bleeding gums. How can you help me? Are there medications that you can prescribe me? What are the home remedies that I can follow? What type of toothbrush and toothpaste should I use?

Answered by Dr. Naveen Thomas

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Desensitizing tooth paste is good only if it is due to a gum infection. I suggest using a warm salt water gargle or Betadine mouthwash twice daily. If there is any cavity that may be causing it, you need restoration.

So visiting a dentist will be required. In addition, you may need a thorough cleaning of calculus and plaque.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
