Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 28-year-old female. I work in front of my computer by sitting for long hours. I have heard about the adverse effects of prolonged sitting on health. Can you provide more information on the following specific health risks associated with extended periods of sitting:

1. How does excessive sitting impact various aspects of physical health, such as cardiovascular health, musculoskeletal health, and metabolism?

2. What are some strategies to minimize the negative effects of prolonged sitting?

3. Are there specific exercises or movements that can help to manage the impact of sitting for extended periods?

Kindly give your suggestions.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Prolonged sitting is almost synonymous with a sedentary lifestyle, so the adverse effects of prolonged sitting on health are hypertension, diabetes, stroke, pressure genital ulcers, and arthritis. Prolonged sitting affects the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems by causing stasis in blood flow to various organs in the body, leading to poor oxygenation and blood products that may cause tissue necrosis and atrophy.

To minimize the effect, do regular walking and exercise. No specific exercise is detrimental to prolonged sitting. Instead, they are beneficial.

I hope this helps you.

I suggest you schedule another appointment for follow-up via chat, phone, or video consultation.

Thank you.
