Is it possible to treat severe scoliosis unresponsive to bone marrow transplant?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My sister is suffering from scoliosis. She has a curve in her backbone towards the right side, and the backbone is touching the heart. Half of her body (legs) is fully paralyzed. The doctors informed us that she has a maximum life span of 2 to 3 years. A few years ago, doctors had advised a bone marrow transplant, but nothing was observed after that. Is it possible to cure her disease and save her?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your medical history in detail. Your sister seems to have a crippling disease with severe scoliosis. This is causing a compression effect on the lungs and the heart compromising their function. This will affect her lifestyle, and if she is not able to walk even a small distance, then no treatment can cure her. Just give her symptomatic treatment and try to improve her willpower. I hope the answer was useful. Feel free to ask any follow-up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
