What is the best possible treatment for schizophrenia in addition to taking medicines?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My mother is schizophrenic. She was taking her medicines (Amis 100 mg, Relinase 5 mg, Pacitane 2 mg) four years back with a gap of two to three days. But after my elder sister's marriage and after her (my mother) mother's death (seven days after my sister's marriage ), she became restless. She started doing unusual acts, using foul language as if she lives in a different world. My father is very caring about her, but she blames him for everything. She is not ready to go to any doctor as she thinks she is normal. Though I am giving her medicine advised by a doctor (Sizodon MD 1 mg by mixing it with foods like curd or ice cream), this is becoming difficult. What to do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. She has ideas of suspiciousness against her husband and is not accepting that there is something unusual in her. These psychotic symptoms should be treated properly. Sizodon or Risperidone can help to control the symptoms, but if the symptoms are persistent, then we can think of increasing the dose. The dose can be increased to 2 mg if needed after consultation with her doctor. At this dose, she should become better. Another option is to use depot injections in her. The injections have a long duration of action and are given at two to four weeks intervals. You can consult her doctor for these injections too. These are better tolerated and have great efficacy.

Thanks.
