Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
This morning, I mistakenly took my Salbutamol HFA 100 mcg 15 minutes after taking my Breo Ellipta 100/25, and my heart rate spiked to about 120. Should I stop taking my inhalers for a while?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
According to your statement, you have experienced tachycardia or rapid heartbeat due to taking the Salbutamol HFA (inhaler) 15 minutes after using the Breo Ellipta (Fluticasone and Vilanterol) 100/25 inhaler.
Usually, asthma or COPD guidelines advise that one should take bronchodilators like a Salbutamol inhaler first, then wait for a few minutes (many books have mentioned one minute), then steroid or combined inhalers like Breo Ellipta can be taken.
But, in some patients like you, using a Salbutamol inhaler and steroid-containing combined inhalers like Breo Ellipta may initiate cardiovascular side effects like increased heart rate or tachycardia, irregular heart rhythm or arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, and many more.
As you have already experienced such type of cardiovascular side effects like increased heart rate or tachycardia after using different types of inhalers together, then you should consult with your prescribing physician as soon as possible. Share your symptoms after using different types of inhalers together. Your doctor will choose the better option for you. Before consulting your physician, you should not use any type of inhaler now for your safety.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
