What could cause worms to infect the skin?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had some kind of worm or organism on my skin for the past two years. Sometimes I have intense itching, and the things seem to move around. I have used topical Permethrin twice and also got treated for lice. I was hospitalized with cellulitis. I do not have any recent travel history. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You appear to have been under a lot of discomforts due to multiple medications and consultations. I will try to be as precise as possible.

1) Your primary complaint is that you have parasites in your stools. There are multiple intestinal parasites, and it is best to get antiworm medications once a year. This may include Tablet Albendazole 400 mg once daily for three days.

2) You also seem to have hypertension (high blood pressure), considering that you are taking Losartan, Furosemide, and Metoprolol.

3) Also, you have hypothyroidism, considering you are on Levothyroxine.

4) I would certainly like to know the reason for prescribing the tablet Prozac (Fluoxetine) to you and the reasons for discontinuation by you.

5) You mentioned pulmonary hypertension. Please let me know the diagnostic tests and prescriptions provided by the pulmonologists.

I would also suggest some lifestyle changes, such as doing aerobic exercises or yoga and meditation under the guidance of a qualified instructor and dietary changes under the guidance of a qualified dietitian, to reduce body weight, which appears to be higher than the optimal for your height and age. I would also suggest some dietary changes such as:

  1. Avoid white sugar, white rice, gluten-based, and wheat-based preparations and replace them with stevia, brown rice, and millets.
  2. Please take adequate yogurt along with fruits half an hour before meals.
  3. Kindly revert for more queries.

Patient's Query

Thank you for your reply, doctor.

Can I get the prescription for Albendazole?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have already written instructions earlier.

However, you need a local prescription to buy the medicine locally, depending on your country. You have other systemic derangements that should be the focal point, such as hypertension, obesity, thyroid disorder, and possible psychological stress disorder.

Thank you.
