Patient's Query
Hi,
I fell while testing a backyard zipline over a creek. My left side has pain. It hurts to laugh, cough, or sneeze. I am taking Ibuprofen and Tylenol for pain relief. Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Sorry to hear about your accident, but let me also tell you that you can go back to physical activities and outdoor sports within some time.
As I see on your X-rays (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), there are fractures in the seventh, eighth, and possibly also ninth and tenth ribs on the left side.
This produces mild fluid collection (pleural effusion). This fracture is causing you pain.
Rib fractures like these may not require any aggressive management and may heal over time. Still, I suggest you consult an orthopedic specialist for complete advice.
Please do not get worried or dishearted and wait for the fractures to heal.
Best wishes.
Thank you.
