Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a very weak eyesight of -18 in both eyes. Many surgeries are available, but I am scared to go for them because of the risks. My parents, too, are scared. Please suggest one according to my situation. My right eye has a grey spot that I know is a stuck floater. You will better know what I am saying. So what if we take the risk for one eye, and if it is successful, we go for the other? I do not know. Please suggest a better option for my situation. Kindly advise.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
With a power of - 18D and floaters, I also expect progressive retinal degenerative changes due to myopia. The only refractive surgery option available for you is clear lens extraction. In this procedure, the natural lens of your eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens to enable you to see clearly. Various artificial lenses are available and some lenses give you the advantage of seeing both distant objects and intermediate, near objects. The only possible problem would be your retinal condition. How much vision you get depends on how healthy your retina is. However, this procedure is quite safe and it can be done electively, that is, as & when you wish. Also, it is usually done one eye after another with up to a week or so between. In case you want further information, kindly attach your doctor's notes and a slip of your latest power of both eyes. I hope this helps. Take care.
