How to maintain the oral health after quitting smoking?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have attached a few pictures, and I wanted to check my gum health. Recently I quit smoking, vaping and using nicotine poaches on my gums. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I saw the pictures attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The gum seems healthy, but there seems to be some plaque surrounding the visible surface of all the teeth, which requires thorough cleaning by a dentist. In addition, one or two premolars seem to have cervical abrasion due to prolonged brushing too hard. I suggest you brush softer in an up-down or circular motion using a soft brush and not to polish the teeth.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Though I have quit smoking and using nicotine poaches on my gums, I know I need to follow up with the dentist, but I just wanted to ensure nothing looks out of place.
