Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 55-year-old man experiencing some troubling symptoms, including difficulty urinating and a frequent urge to urinate. My father also had prostate issues, which adds to my concern. During a recent checkup, my PSA levels were elevated. Additionally, I have heard about hormone therapy as a treatment option. I am trying to understand my options and would appreciate your insights.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
At your age, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland, which is common in older men) is quite common. If your PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels are slightly elevated, the chances of prostate cancer are very low. However, to get a clearer diagnosis, it is important to undergo an ultrasound of the abdomen.
Additionally, I recommend you get a complete blood count (CBC), a urine routine test, and random blood sugar levels checked. Once you have all the reports, feel free to share them with me for further guidance.
In the meantime, it is essential not to rely solely on medication. Regular physical activity, such as yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises), and walking, can be very helpful. I also suggest taking four to five dried dates boiled in 200 ml of milk daily for three to six months.
You may also take the capsule Urimax (Tamsulosin) 0.4 mg once per day for a few weeks, but this should be based on your doctor’s recommendation.
Once I have all your reports, I can provide more tailored advice. Please feel free to share them.
I hope this has helped you.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
