Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I suffer from a severe allergy to dust and pollution in the winter. I have been sneezing continuously, and my eyes have become red and itchy. My sinuses and head hurt a lot.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
From your history, it is obvious that you are suffering from allergic rhinitis (an allergic reaction that causes sneezing, congestion, and a sore throat). The first thing to remember is that an allergy is a lifelong disease. We can control allergies, but we cannot cure them. Medicines are helpful only for managing the symptoms and not curing the disease.
I cannot give you a course of medicine. You have to take it for a longer duration until adequate control is achieved. So it is very important to do an allergy test to determine what is causing the symptoms. You can do a skin prick allergy test or a blood test to detect an allergy.
Your symptoms are very characteristic, indicating allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis (eye inflammation caused by allergic substances). So you can take the tablet Montair-Fx (Montelukast and Fexofenadine) once at night, or you can start a nasal spray twice daily in each nostril.
Also, get your spirometry test or PFT (pulmonary function test) done to detect whether you are suffering from asthma or not. It is very common to exist with both diseases simultaneously. Once you know the various allergens, protection and avoidance of those things is the primary management of your allergy. So use a mask or scarf when you go outside.
I hope this answers your query.
Let me know if I need to assist you further.
Thank you.
