Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 22-year-old female, and I have been dealing with allergic rhinitis and sinusitis for the past few years. Every time I am exposed to allergens, I sneeze a lot, and my nose becomes blocked, making it very uncomfortable for me. Is there a long-term treatment I can pursue to eliminate this recurrent nasal congestion? Are nasal drops harmful with prolonged use? Additionally, I have noticed a slight decrease in my sense of smell during these episodes. Please advise.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Actually, allergies cannot be cured but can only be controlled. The best treatment for allergies is prevention; if you can prevent exposure to the allergen, then there will not be any symptoms such as rhinitis. I would suggest covering your face when going out, avoiding dusty areas, using a face mask while cleaning the house, and keeping your mattresses dust-free. By taking these measures, you can control your symptoms, and you may not need any additional treatment. However, frequent use of decongestants can cause side effects. Instead, I suggest using the tablet Levocetirizine 10 mg once before sleeping, taken whenever you experience allergic symptoms.
I hope your queries are resolved and any further queries are welcome. Thank you.
