Why does my period never come on time?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For the last six months, I have been getting my period either five days before my due date or two days later than the due date. I want to know, is it normal to experience this time interval in periods?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Yes, this is normal. Seven days plus or minus is considered a normal menstrual cycle. It means any cycle length between 21 and 35 days is normal.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I used to get small blisters around my lips. It occurs on the lining of the lips. Very tiny and minute blisters all over the lips. It happens whenever I get my period. What can be the cause and treatment?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There is nothing that can cause such blisters over the lips before menses. It could be generalized facial acne due to hormonal changes before acne. I suggest a medication that treats all symptoms associated with the premenstrual period.

Take a tablet of Evening Primrose Oil 500 milligrams once daily for one month. Kindly consult your doctor to discuss the suggestion and take the treatment seriously.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for reply,

I hope this will help. I generally do not have any problems prior to menses, but in the last three to four times, I used to get this type of rash, tiny blisters all over my oral lips, and it vanishes almost after a week or 10 days. I hope this tablet will help and will not cause any other side effects.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

This tablet does not cause any side effects. Generally, if anything appears before and disappears after menses, treatment is advised only if it bothers you. I hope you have not changed any cosmetics or face wash or anything that causes allergy.

Sometimes waxing over the lips also causes such problems. Kindly think of these issues as well. I mean, try to correlate; if you do not have such things, then take the medication that I suggested.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Nothing as such. And as I told you, it has started within the last three to four months only. Before that, it was not the case. But now this thing re-occurs almost every month. It may be a cold sore or a fever blister, but it is very small and goes away after 10 days. If you say, I will take this medicine for one month.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Try this for one month. If your problem remains as such, then I would prescribe you OCP's (oral contraceptive pills) for three to six months. Do not worry. Everything will be fine.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

What are OCPs?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

This kind of problem occurs with corpus luteal defects. This is improper secretion of hormones. You do not need to be worried about it. If you are planning a pregnancy, then some medicines are given in the second half of the menstrual cycle. Otherwise, leave it. It is normal.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I was very much worried about this manner of spotting before periods. I get clots during my period at times. Not that big, but yes, clots are discharged along with blood for the first two days. So, what about that? Is it also normal?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

That is also fine. Do not worry. If you think bleeding is excessive, just do a blood test for hemoglobin.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I also consulted with you before. This was regarding my problem of spotting for two to three days before bleeding starts during menses. My period starts about seven to eight days before my due date. Is it normal? I still have the same manner of bleeding and menstrual cycle.

Also, you asked me to get reports done for hemoglobin. I got thyroid-stimulating hormone, creatine, total blood count, and SGOT or SGPT. Please check the report and advise if everything is in the normal range.

Kindly advise.

I have seen your reports and read your queries as well. You have a hormonal disturbance. Your cycles are short. You require hormonal treatment for the same. But without proper video consultation, I am unable to prescribe medicine to you. Kindly request a video consultation after 6 pm today. So I will send you a proper prescription.

I hope this helps you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

This is an iron supplement for low hemoglobin. This is not hormonal Medicine. Actually, we are not allowed to prescribe any hormonal medicine without a video consultation. You will require hormonal treatment for period issues.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
