What is the ideal weight of mother and fetus at 20th week of pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am six months pregnant. My weight at the time of conception was 121 lbs and now it is 130 lbs which is lower than expected. I got my level two USG (ultrasound) done and the weight of the fetus was 0.7 lbs at 20 weeks. My appetite was good before conception but after conception, I am not able to eat much. I feel very much occupied and lethargic after eating anything heavy. Please provide suggestions on how to increase the fetus's weight and improve my own weight.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. I do not see any reason for you to worry. In pregnancy growth of the baby will be less in the first half of pregnancy. No matter what you eat or drink, the baby will grow to its destined potential. Your baby's weight as per the scan is normal. From the seventh month onwards your weight will suddenly improve. At 28 weeks, I would suggest getting a GCT (glucose challenge test) test done to rule out gestational diabetes. Once confirmed as non-diabetic, have lots of sweets, and proteins. Egg white, chicken, sprouts, and protein drinks two to three times a day can also be added to the diet.

I hope this helps you.

Regards.
