Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My wife is 34 weeks pregnant. Because of severe wrist pain, she had Diclofenac tablets for five days. Now, we are worried after reading on internet that Diclofenac should be avoided during pregnancy. Will it cause any danger to her pregnancy? Please help us doctor.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
First of all, stop the medicine now. Yes, Diclofenac should not be taken during pregnancy. The risk is much more when the organ of the fetus develops that is in the first 10 to 12 weeks of pregnancy. Thus, you are lucky enough that she is at 34 weeks and that all fetal organs have already developed. As such, you need not be worried apart from gastritis of mother that could occur due to high dosage of Diclofenac. So, stop it and try hot compress, local gel and Paracetamol tablets to alleviate her pain.
