How to reduce wrinkles on the neck and shoulder during the seventh month of pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently eight months pregnant. Before getting pregnant, my neck, shoulder, and chest area were without wrinkles, smooth and hydrated (since I have combination skin). That was until I became seven months pregnant, and I started noticing the newly formed wrinkles on my neck and shoulders (over the collarbone). I did not gain as much weight during pregnancy. What causes them, would they linger after birth, and what can I do?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

First, you need to understand that many hormones in pregnancy could result in many cutaneous changes. Some get resolved, and some persist.

In my opinion, there are two possibilities.

It could be acanthosis. It is a condition that usually occurs due to a high level of blood insulin, and patient could be pregnant. Therefore, you need to check your blood sugar levels.

And sometimes, it can occur without any other cause. It will slowly get away with four to five months after pregnancy. So try to get your pre-pregnancy weight.

It could also be a part of melasma.

I suggest you apply 1 % Hydrocortisone cream two times daily. However, please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
