What are the concerning symptoms for a 34 weeks pregnant woman with gestational hypertension?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 34 weeks pregnant, and I have gestational hypertension. I am currently taking the tablet Labetalol for my hypertension. From last week, I could notice increasing pelvic pressure that worsens with movement and walking, and I feel like my bladder is always full. I also have mild abdominal cramps. Today, I had soft, loose stools but was struggling with constipation in the previous weeks. Are these symptoms concerning?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern, and I will surely help you.

At 34 weeks of pregnancy, it is important to stay cautious about any leaking, increased vaginal discharge, fever, swelling in the face, frequent contractions, vomiting, burning during urination, etc. If you have any of these symptoms, please let me know. Kindly keep track of the baby heartbeat and movement. Increased pelvic pressure and urinary bladder fullness are signs of the baby growing. Kindly observe yourself for loose stools if it increases, and most importantly, if your cramps become five or more in an hour, please visit the emergency room.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I have noticed an increase in vaginal discharge, but it is still white and cream, no change in color or consistency, no bleeding, no fevers. I am having contractions occasionally, but nothing consistent. And the baby is very active, and heart rate has been above 140. I never had facial swelling. I was 153 lbs before pregnancy, and now my weight is around 190 lbs. It has been a steady increase, with no sudden weight gain.

Thanks.

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I am glad to receive the additional information.

Kindly keep track of baby movement, and since you are already 34 weeks, please call up your doctor if you feel anything unusual. Kindly take care of your diet, health, and take your medicines regularly. How was your previous ultrasound report? Best wishes and happy delivery.

God bless.
