Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 38-year-old female with a weight of 127 pounds. I do not have any symptoms, but I just happened to check my blood sugar with a glucometer. The first time random came 126 mg/dL. Then after a few days, it was 144 mg/dL. Fasting once was 126 mg/dL, and my PP came to 122 mg/dL. Today, I had green tea with honey and tested, and it came to 130 mg/dL. I was not sure of the reading. So, I repeated back to back thrice, and the results were 105 mg/dL, 122 mg/dL, and 112 mg/dL. I am worried I am diabetic as my mom is type 2 diabetic. I have an active lifestyle otherwise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. First of all, you need to stop worrying. You are not diabetic unless your tests show a blood sugar level of more than 200. Since you have a family history and your test results are inconsistent, you could be pre-diabetic. On the other hand, this could also be an error due to a faulty glucometer. Even if you are pre-diabetic, it can easily be corrected by lifestyle modifications without any medication. I suggest that you go to a reputable laboratory and get the following tests done, which will help us decide better. Do Fasting blood sugar, Postprandial blood sugar and HbA1C (glycosylated hemoglobin). On the day of testing, after your fasting test is done, eat a normal breakfast like you eat every day. Please follow up with your results. We will definitely work up something for you.
