Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 31-year-old male, and I am really scared as my girlfriend, and I had unprotected intercourse, and now I am terrified that I might have contracted HIV. The thought is scary. Every little ache or pain feels like a sign that I have been infected. There is itching and redness in my penis, and I did not see any unusual discharge. What should I do now? How soon can I get tested, and what are the chances that I have been infected? I am scared for my health and for my girlfriend's too. Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
It is important to take action and seek medical advice as soon as possible. The first step is to get tested for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) with the help of a common STD (sexually transmitted diseases) panel test, which includes the following.
Most HIV tests can detect the virus within two to six weeks after exposure, but some may take up to three months for accurate results. Kindly consult a healthcare provider to determine the best type of test for your situation.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
