Why are my periods delayed after I had protected sex during the last day of my periods two months before?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My last period was two months ago, and after that I did not get any periods. I had protected sex with condom as soon as my periods ended. So after one months I took urine pregnancy test and the result was negative. I have gained excess weight and my diet got changed to rich diet. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query,

Abnormal, prolong, scanty or irregular periods with weight gain, abnormal hair growth are the signs and symptoms of PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)/PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome). I suggest you to have a serum bets human chorionic gonadotropin immediately to check your pregnancy status. If it comes negative then you need investigations and transvaginal scan with menstrual induction. I suggest to have tablet Norethindrone twice daily for seven days and wait for bleeding for one to two weeks. On the second day of your menstruation, I advise you to get blood tests for progesterone, prolactin, testosterone, insulin, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone, thyroid function, and transvaginal scanning. Collect the laboratory reports and discuss here or local gynecologist, and also have tablet Norethisterone 10 mg twice daily from day four to day 26 of every cycle to regulate cycles for three cycles. I suggest you to have a healthy diet with less salt, sugar, oil and spice. Try to do daily walk, yoga and exercise to have normal body mass index and weight. Also, for abnormal hairs growth you can have waxing, threading etc.

Please follow up for futher assistances.

Thank you.
