Followed by PMS, my period lasted for only two days. Is it worrisome?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am sexually active. But always use protection and double check after to see if the condom broke or not in case we need to take a pill. My period is fairly regular and lasts for 7 days. This time I did experience mild PMS symptoms and stomach cramps prior to onset. My period was five days earlier. And this time, period lasted for only two days but the flow was proper as always. Is there something I need to worry about?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Firstly, a single episode of early menstruation with normal flow does not qualify for being labeled as a case of polymenorrhea. Secondly, as you have been protected during intercourse, an implantation lasting for two complete days is also unlikely. So, you are pregnancy safe. Thirdly, the early withdrawal is likely to be stress induced hormonal imbalance especially progesterone level during this cycle which caused PMS (premenstrual syndrome) and menstrual cramps in this cycle. So, there is no actual need to be worried. Just maintain a menstrual calendar for next three months to understand the pattern of bleed. If the pattern continues then a hormonal profile and an ultrasound pelvis shall be required. But as of now, no intervention or investigation advised. Just increase your water intake and if not then try yoga and meditation which are great stress busters.
