How to control and treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can I take Sertraline for my PMDD? What is the dosage? I do not have any other issues apart from this. However, it is causing me extreme anger and depression, and my personal and professional life is getting affected. I am just 33 yrs old, and I fear I will live like this until menopause. How do we treat or control this PMDD? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is an extreme form of premenstrual syndrome in which there are psychological as well as physical symptoms like weight gain, bloating, breast tenderness, mood swings, etc., can happen. In your case, I suggest you do yoga and meditations to control mind deviation and focus the mind on the work. I would also suggest you eat more vegetables like salads and green leafy vegetables. Sertraline is an anti-psychotic drug that I would not suggest.
