Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have an acute, sharp pain in the left side of my chest, under my nipple—not in the center. It feels like a tight, constricting pain. I took Aspirin three hours ago. The pain comes and goes occasionally and radiates to my left shoulder. It feels very localized, so I am applying pressure to the spot where the pain is. It seems to be between my ribs.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have reviewed your query. A proper assessment of your condition can be made if you answer the following questions:
Sharp, short-lived pain is less likely to be cardiac in origin. Cardiac pain is typically retrosternal (felt behind the breastbone), persistent, worsens with exertion, and often improves with rest. It may also be associated with sweating and a feeling of uneasiness.
The likely causes could be acid reflux, musculoskeletal pain, or pleuritic chest pain (pain from the lining of the lungs). Musculoskeletal pain tends to worsen when pressing on the painful area, while pleuritic pain often increases with deep breathing or coughing.
Thanks and regards.
