Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Having a kind of swelling and acne-like outgrowth on my right foot between the toe and second finger. It is painful and is spreading. I can not explain it much. I am a 19-year-old male weighing 60 kg and 5 feet 10 inches in height. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I saw the picture (the attachments are removed to protect the patient's identity); it is a plantar wart.
Wart is a viral infection; it is contagious and spreads from one part to another and from one person to another. Needs to be treated as early as possible.
Treatment options include,
1. Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen at the dermatology office, two to three sessions.
2. Electrocautery, mostly one session under local anesthesia at a dermatologist's office.
3. Paring the wart and application of TCA (tricyclic antidepressants) 100 % at the dermatology office, two to three sessions.
4. Application of salicylic acid and lactic acid (16.7 % each) combination lotion to the wart every other night by a patient at home. Clean the foot with lukewarm water, allow it to dry, apply vaseline (Paraffin) to the surrounding skin around the wart, then use this lotion, very little with the applicator brush on top of the wart, making sure that it does not touch the surrounding skin. Takes two to three months to get rid of a wart if appropriately used.
I hope you find it helpful.
Kind regards.
