This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 16 years old and living a very sedentary lifestyle. I have aches all over my body including feet, knees, shoulders, spine, etc., and suspect that I might have plantar fascitis. I am suffering for almost a year now. My walking increases the pain suddenly because of the school reopening.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It sounds like you are experiencing a lot of pain and discomfort due to your sedentary lifestyle and sudden increase in walking. Plantar fasciitis can certainly cause pain in the feet, and it is possible that you may have developed it due to your inactivity. Here are a few things you can do to help alleviate your symptoms:

  1. Start moving more: While it may be uncomfortable at first, gradually increasing your activity levels can help reduce your pain over time. Start with gentle stretches and walking for short periods, and gradually increase your time and intensity as you feel comfortable.
  2. Take care of your feet: Make sure you are wearing supportive shoes that fit well, and consider using orthotics if necessary. You can also try rolling a frozen water bottle under your feet to help relieve pain and inflammation.
  3. Try physical therapy: A physical therapist can help you identify any imbalances or weaknesses in your body that may be contributing to your pain and can recommend exercises to help improve your strength and mobility.
  4. Consider pain relief options: Over-the-counter pain relievers like tablet Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen can help reduce pain and inflammation, but be sure to talk to your doctor before taking any medication.
