What is the treatment for oily skin, acne, and pimples?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have an oily skin type. Recently I have been experiencing pimples, white bumps, and red dots on my cheeks close to my ears. Sometimes I feel very itchy near the pimples. I have developed one or two new big pimples on my forehead also. When the pimple subsides after a week or two it leaves a reddish brown mark on that area.

I feel the need to wash my face very often as it starts feeling very heavy and sticky from all the oil on my face. I used clear gel for some time but it is not working on my skin. Not using any other medication at the moment.

Kindly help me with the same.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Attach a picture of the lesion for details. Use Ahaglow face wash twice daily for 15 days. Are there pustules, inflammatory red lesions, or photosensitivity?

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply,

The big pimples have some pus and liquid substance, and the small ones feel hard with no liquid substance. I am using Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin currently.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Use Clindamycin 1 % gel in the daytime for 15 days (on red and pus-filled pimples), and Benzoyl gel 2.5 % cream at night for 15 days (on red inflammatory bumps). Do not use Cetaphil cleanser if oily skin. Take a tablet of Azithromycin 500 mg once a day before food for three days. Use Acnesol gel in the evening for 15 days (on hard pimples), and Aziderm 10 % at night (on post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation lesions or brown spots).

  1. Avoid using body lotion and irritant cosmetic products on the face. Use a water-based moisturizer.
  2. Avoid a diet with a high glycemic index. Do not use steroid cream on the face.
  3. Avoid facials.
  4. Eat a well-balanced, nutritious diet and exercise regularly.
  5. Avoid the application of greasy cosmetic products and oil on the face.
  6. Maintain good facial hygiene.
  7. Avoid comedogenic cosmetics.
  8. Avoid dusty and polluted environments.
  9. For oily skin, use D Acne face wash twice daily for 15 days, or Ahaglow face wash twice daily for 15 days.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
