Does popping pimples make the skin bumpy and scarred?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I used to have clear skin. Then, I moved to another city and was super stressed, and now my face is bumpy and scarred because I started popping my pimples.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. As you have mentioned, picking acne or skin causes scarring, which usually heals better with medical procedures than topical medications. However, combining medications and procedures would be the ideal way to reduce scarring. I suggest you to follow a few things mentioned below.

  1. Use AHA glow gel face wash (Salicylic acid and Glycolic acid) twice daily. Apply a sufficient quantity and massage in gentle circular motions on wet skin and wash off within one minute daily.
  2. Clinmiskin gel (Clindamycin + Nicotinamide) is to be used twice daily on acne or pimples after using face wash on a clean, dry face. It may be continued for months.
  3. Take tablet Limcee 500 (Vitamin C) tablets to be consumed after breakfast for one month.
  4. Take capsule Omega 3 once daily after dinner for one month for hydration and healing of the skin.
  5. Chemical peel procedures may be done after in-person consultation with a dermatologist. In this procedure, a solution consisting of glycolic acid is applied to the face and left for 5 minutes before cleaning. Usually done once every ten days for six sessions for effectiveness. It is an inexpensive procedure.

Apart from the same, for further management options, kindly provide an image of the affected skin area for assessment by attaching it to the image icon provided in the query session. It would help me analyze the severity of skin damage and concerns of your skin and will help provide good treatment options for the same.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
