How are black skin bumps on the penis treated?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from black pimples on my penis. These pimples appeared three months ago. Now it is increasing day by day. I am worried; please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Based on your description, this condition is called Bowenoid papulosis. It most commonly affects the genital area, but it can sometimes appear on other parts of the body. It is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus spread through skin contact. It presents as slightly raised pigmented papules and is considered a premalignant condition.

Most lesions can be treated successfully with simple, local destruction by radio-frequency or chemical cautery. Kindly contact a nearby dermatologist for an in-person examination and removal of these lesions. The procedure is simple and hardly takes a few minutes.

I hope it helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
