Do hemorrhoids cause a foul smell during periods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old female and I have piles which is present both inside and outside of my anus. I do not know which grade of piles it is and how to cure it. The other concern of mine is that after my periods a foul smell comes. I do not know whether both are related and do not know how to prevent both. Could you please make me understand this and give the best preventive solution?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The piles are medically called hemorrhoids. I believe you have a grade two pile. I know how you feel uncomfortable it is to have this lesion especially when you want to defecate. Any history of constipation, anal sex, or chronic cough? From your experience of foul-smelling sensation, it is believed that the pile may be infected. Please drink a lot of water, eat fruit and vegetables, and exercise regularly as common home remedies. Please sit on warm water mixed with antiseptic solution twice daily, then insert intrarectal Anusol suppository(hydrocortisone acetate rectal suppositories) bid for one week, syrup liquid paraffin(Paraffinum liquidum) 20ml PO two times for one week.

I hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

Thank you.
