Can pericoronitis develop due to measles?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am really suffering from pericoronitis and I cannot eat properly. Does measles cause pericoronitis?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Measles does not have any connection with pericoronitis. Pericoronitis occurs when the gums over the wisdom tooth get swelled and there is an accumulation of food particles and bacteria leading to a painful condition. There is a restricted mouth opening in some cases. Measles is a viral infection affecting kids. It spreads through sneezing followed by body rash, fever, fatigue, pain in muscles, and runny nose.

You can take tablet Amoxyclav 625 mg (Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid) twice a day for five days. You can take tablet Metronidazole 400 mg twice a day for five days. You can take Zerodol SP (Aceclofenac with Paracetamol and Serratiopeptidase) twice a day for five days, and capsule Pan D (Pantoprazole and Domperidone) twice a day before meals for five days. Use Betadine mouth wash for gargling and mix it with lukewarm water for gargling. Use it two to three times a day. Kindly send an image of the affected region.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Thank you.
