What causes vitiligo of the penis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a white patch on my penis since the last two months. I thought it was vitiligo, but I am curious to know if it is a yeast infection.

Please advice.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is penile vitiligo with superficial fungal infection.

  1. Apply Luliconazole 1 % cream (Luliact cream) at night on the dry, scaly lesions for three weeks.
  2. Apply 2 % Miconazole cream at night for three weeks.
  3. Wash genital area with Episoft cleanser or no soap cleanser daily.
  4. Ketoconazole soap for a bath for one month.
  5. Avoid scratching and rubbing of lesions.
  6. Avoid occlusive innerwear/clothes.
  7. Wear loose, comfortable thin cotton inners.
  8. Avoid friction, heat, moisture, or injury.
  9. Moisture favors fungal growth, so keep the area clean and dry.
  10. Clean the area with warm water, dry it, and then apply the cream with clean hands.
  11. Maintain proper genital hygiene.

Regards.
