Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am not allergic to anything, but recently I have developed a phobia of nuts and have become fearful of them over the past two weeks.
I am particularly afraid of peanut butter, even though I have eaten it my entire life without any problems. Now, I fear developing anaphylaxis from eating nuts.
Is it possible to suddenly develop a severe reaction to a food that you were not previously allergic to?
I have been consuming nuts throughout my life, and now I am scared to eat them.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Have you ever experienced an allergic reaction after eating peanut butter or nuts? If the answer is no, then this fear is likely irrational and may not be based on any actual risk.
In this case, there is no need to worry; you can continue to eat peanut butter as you did before. However, if the answer is yes and you have experienced allergic symptoms, I recommend getting a skin patch test to determine if you have a food allergy.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
