Does PCOS/PMOS cause delayed period and difficulty in getting pregnant?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My period is delayed, and I am suffering from PCOS/PMOS. I am not able to conceive because of this.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

In PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)/PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome), delayed periods, scanty menses, acne, and excessive weight gain are commonly seen. Sometimes, it is associated with thyroid abnormality. Usually, in PCOS/PMOS, there are anovulatory cycles (the egg is not released).

Therefore, there is difficulty in getting pregnant. But it can be easily managed with follicular study and ovulation induction. Also, you should maintain your weight within the BMI (body mass index) with regular exercise and diet modification. If you are planning to have a baby, then I suggest you start taking treatment for PCOS/PMOS.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
