Is it normal for women with PCOS/PMOS to have regular periods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had pain in my left thigh for six months, and pain during ovulation since the last two periods. I had similar pain six years ago also. I went through hormonal blood tests and a pelvic ultrasound scan.

The blood tests showed normal levels of hormones: TSH: 1.7 mIU/mL, FSH: 4.4 mIU/mL, LH: 2.1 mIU/mL, and prolactin: 16.6 ng/mL.

But the ultrasound showed enlarged ovaries with the right ovary measuring 16.2 cc and the left ovary measuring 15.4 cc in volume. Moreover, the ovaries had no dominant follicle, and multiple small follicles were present in the periphery of both ovaries. And the ultrasound report concluded with PCOS/PMOS. However, I have a regular menstrual cycle.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understood your concern.

PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)/PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome) is a common condition, and it may cause symptoms like irregular periods, scanty menses, acne, and excessive weight gain. However, it may not always cause symptoms. Furthermore, PCOS/PMOS may cause an anovulatory cycle.

In your case, the bulky ovaries can be due to the ultrasound done during the ovulation period, so no intervention is needed right now. The pain in the left thigh is not related to PCOS/PMOS; it can be due to other reasons.

For pain relief in the thigh, I suggest you take a tablet of Zerodol-SP (Aceclofenac, Paracetamol, and Serratiopeptidase) whenever needed. I suggest you consult a specialist, talk with them, and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Please follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
