How to take the correct dose of Paroxetine for anxiety?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am using Paroxetine and Mirtazapine for anxiety and gut issues (functional dyspepsia). I tried a lot of different doses for a while (Paxil - 10, 15, 20, 30 mg), Mirtazapine (7.5 to 15 mg), and I can tolerate Paxil 15 mg and Mirtazapine 7.5 mg, but my anxiety is still there. Bigger doses even increase my anxiety. Mirtazapine helped very much with my functional dyspepsia. Does it mean that Paroxetine is not good for me, and I should try other medication? Or do I have to accept that my anxiety will not be cured completely?

Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. You need to take other medicines except Paroxetine, as Paroxetine is not very effective in your case, so you need to try other anti-anxiety medicines like Venlafaxine and Desvenlafaxine. Anxiety will be controlled with medicine. You need to start physical exercise daily. Avoid smoking and drinking if any. Start psychological sessions, particularly CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy) to understand your anxiety and its origin and manage it by deep breathing exercises and relaxation.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
